What kinds of street shoes will also work for Ballroom mens dance shoes?

I'm looking for a mens' shoe that my husband can ballroom dance in without paying over a hundred dollars for an "official" ballroom dance shoe. Has anyone had success with any particular ready-to-wear?

1. umm..i do musical theater, and i know that converse work really well, because it feels almost like your wearing nothing, and also they are not bulky like other shoes.. hope i helped
