What is the best way to organize your shoes?

My kids have their shoes all over and even i have my shoes out of boxes, we just redid our closets and i wanted to get an organizer for our shoes, what is the best product or effective way to organize shoes? Shoe Rack? over door hanger? Shelves?

2. I have tried all of the above and I've found that a shoe rack has worked best for us. Try to find one with a level for each family member to use. If everyone has their own shelf you won't have to worry about someone else's dirty shoes being thrown on top of yours.
3. The over door hanger, saves room, easy access, only down side...the bad odor everythime you open your closet door...
4. I live in residence at university so I don't have a lot of room (but lots of shoes)...I bought this thing that hangs in my closet from the hanger rack. It has little shelf/cubby hole sort of things. There were designs with narrow cubbies, and one with larger sized cubbies, I opted for the larger one so I can get more than one pair of shoes in a spot. I bought this from IKEA. Its pretty cheap but also good quality, and saves lots of space. Hope this helps!
5. My husband has a shoe rack that hangs over the closet door. It's great for keeping shoes where we won't trip on them!
6. We use shoe racks in our closets but no one seemed to use them for everyday shoes. The best thing that helps my house is we have a basket and rug by the front door....my youngest puts her shoes in the basket and we take ours off at the door. Keeps dirt out and they actually stay in one spot!
7. shoe racks for the kids and shelves (if closet is big enough) for you and your husband (most of mine are in boxes so I can stack them)
8. give them away to the needy and don't buy so many anymore
