Color of socks to wear with casual brown shoes and jeans?

What is the rule for wearing dark shoes (such as leather) with jeans? Is there a particular type of sock that looks best? Any recommendations?

3. In the summertime, wear no socks. If you live in a cold climate, wear navy or brown.

6. I would find a cute, dark (but not black) patterened sock. Avoid white or other light colored socks. Black socks would only be ok with black shoes.

8. What type of shoes are they? Also, are they pretty dark or black? If so, then black socks would be the way to go. If they are more tan, brown or a matching color would be good. Also, if they are loafers, they would be seen more, so choosing some that don't clash is important. Boots are cooler, because it matters less.
