What kind socks should I wear with casual brown shoes?

Yesterday I got a pair of brown leather sketchers (the ones that are more like tennis shoes). I wore them with shorts and the only kind of short socks I had were white. It didn't look that great. I've really only ever worn white socks with sorts, so if any of you own these kind of shoes what type of socks to you usually wear?

1. I would wear short, black ankle socks. They blend in with the brown, so they are hard to notice. :) I hope I helped.
2. I think ankle socks will look funny whatever the colour if you wear them with that type of shoe and shorts. I would suggest either boot socks, hiking socks or sports socks - rolled down or pulled up according to preference. Striped tubes would look good esp with stripes to match the shoes. Or football socks. That's certainly the sort of thing I would wear with 'booty' type shoes and shorts. If you don't have any of that sort of gear and don't want to have to go out and buy something then why not try the other types of socks you do have and see how they look. I assume since the only type of short socks are these white ones then the others you have are long socks. You can try them rolled down or pulled up to 3/4 or knee length and see if they are an improvement on the ankle white socks. It's up to you but I have certainly worn long socks up with shorts in public recently - normally sports socks or golf type socks - without any adverse reaction.
